This is a fantastic opportunity for Ninjas and is not to be missed. If you have any questions please contact: info@coderdojo.com

Thank you very much!

#EUDojo – CoderDojo Dun Laoghaire at the European Parliament, Brussels!

We had an amazing day in Brussels on Wednesday 30th September at the EUDojo. This was the second time the event has been run, and we were delighted that out of the 30 odd ninjas attending (5 from Ireland), 2 were from Dun Laoghaire, and both Max and Neri did us proud, with Neri presenting a project on the day!

It was a very early start, leaving home at 4 am for a 6.40 am flight from Dublin Airport. Mentors Ossian Smyth (Max’s dad @smytho) and Toby Mole @TobyMole and myself (Sandra Maguire @SandraMaguire) were delighted to have the opportunity to assist on the day. Sean Kelly MEP was our host in the European Parliament, and he greeted us at the European Parliament, which is a really stunning set of buildings. We put on our official t-shirts, had lunch, and then headed into a truly spectacular room to get set up for our CoderDojo session.

The word was out, and before long a number of MEPs arrived, anxious to find out what they could learn about coding from a crowd of young people who aren’t even old enough to vote! I think it’s fair to say that they were very impressed, very very quickly!

The sponsors were Liberty Global, Microsoft, SAP, Salesforce and Google – and it was a great opportunity for the ninjas to show how they are addressing real world problems from such a young age – people in very senior positions were utterly blown away by the clever ideas from ninjas so very much younger than them!

Our session went on until 3 pm, after which we wandered over to the famous “Manneken Pis” statue and had a quick look around the beautiful old town of Brussels. All too soon it was time to head back to the airport for our return flight home.  It’s hard to put into words how incredible a day it was, watching kids from different countries being brought together by a love of coding, but hopefully the photographs below will give you a flavour of an incredibly special day!

P.S. We weren’t able to get back in time for the Wednesday evening session of course, so many thanks to Francis Reed (@francisreed) for sharing details of the day with the group in our absence!

Coolest Projects 2015 – 2 winners from Dun Laoghaire!

Well, everyone was a winner really, it was a fantastic day at the Coolest Projects in the RDS on 13th June, with about 650 ninjas showing off 500 projects!

We were especially pleased to have two winners from Dun Laoghaire, with Lexi Schoene receiving the RTE overall Design Award, and Fionan O Ceallaigh receiving an Openet Innovators Stage Award.

There are some great photos from the CoderDojo Foundation available by clicking here.

We particularly like this photo of CoderDojo Founder James Whelton with Fionan

and this one of Lexi being awarded her prize onstage 🙂

We have a lot of photos from the day and hope to get these uploaded as soon as we deal with a little technical issue!
